Cultural Care Au Pair Training School

Welcome, dear readers, to my second post and today I will be talking about The Training School hosted by Cultural Care Au Pair.

The Au Pair Training School experience is offered online and completing the training school is a required step to travel to the USA.

It started on Friday, December 8th with an orientation session. There were well over 200 participants in the Zoom. Everyone was stating their names, where they're from, and where they'll be going in the chat. It felt comforting to know that you aren't alone and it honestly was very informative.

They explained exactly what this school entailed and what's expected of you. Over the weekend you get courses and "homework" to complete.

You also had to complete a Pediatric First Aid CPR course and earn a certificate from the American Heart Association.

Monday was two sessions, the first being Preparing to Travel & First Days in the USA. All the information is also posted on a platform in which you sign in, but it's nice having someone go through all of it and answer questions. The second session was a CPR & First Aid Skills Review, we watched a video on what our CPR test is going to look like and all the information you must know.

Tuesday was a long day with the first session being four hours about Introductions, Complexities of the Au Pair Role, and Child Nutrition. The second session was three hours about Health in the Home and Safety Inside and Outside of the Home. We were split into groups of about 40 in a class. Our instructor gave us scenarios and topics to discuss and put us in breakout rooms of four people, each time with someone different. It was fun to talk to the other au pairs and get the know them.

I also want to mention that I got my flight tickets on Tuesday (12/12).

On Wednesday I was supposed to take my CPR test right before the classes started, but it was rescheduled to Thursday. It was a tiring long day as well because of timezones, the classes ended at 11pm. The first four-hour session was about Self-Esteem, Effective Communication and How to Build Strong Relationships. The second three-hour session consisted of Stress Management and Behavior Management.

This is the platform where you submit and watch everything and there is also a phone app which makes it very accessible.

After completing the course, you can download a certificate for your safekeeping. You also don't have access to the platform after Wednesday.

Even though it feels repetitive and some stuff is general knowledge or it's self-explanatory, the school equips you with all the preparation you need to be an au pair. I'm sure if you had any doubts, that you would feel at ease after. They also have a help page, which I just discovered with blogs, so go check that out!

Until our next adventure!
